Internet Speed Test

Run an internet speed test against a selected 39D server. The browser measures latency, download throughput and upload throughput directly to that location.

This test transfers a controlled amount of data directly between your browser and the selected server. For the most representative result, use a wired connection and pause other large downloads or uploads.

HOW IT WORKS

About the Internet Speed Test

The controller issues a short-lived signed session for the selected test server. Your browser then exchanges controlled blocks of data directly with that server, measuring round-trip time and effective upload and download throughput. The result reflects the route between your browser and the selected server at the time of the test.

How to use this result

  1. Run the test from this server.Use a public hostname, address, prefix or ASN in the format requested above.
  2. Compare test locations.Choose another available 39D node or run a local command to identify location-specific behaviour.
  3. Correlate related evidence.Use the related tools below to compare DNS, routes, ports, TLS and application responses.
  4. Keep the time and context.Routing, DNS caches and reputation data change, so record when the result was collected.

Common interpretation issues

  • Wi-Fi congestion and device performance can reduce the measured result.
  • Browser tests include HTTPS, TCP and application overhead, so results may differ from an ISP line-rate figure.
  • VPNs, security software, traffic shaping and the selected server location can materially change the result.
  • The test transfers a controlled amount of data and may use tens of megabytes.

Frequently asked questions

Does the selected location matter?

Yes. Distance, peering and congestion differ between locations, so testing more than one node can reveal route-specific performance.

Is this the speed of my internet connection?

It is the effective browser-to-server throughput at that moment. A wired test with other traffic paused gives the most representative result.

How much data does the test use?

The test adapts within administrator-defined limits and normally transfers several tens of megabytes in total.
